  • What do I need to use Knock?

To use Knock, you'll need two things:
    1) An iPhone running iOS 7 or later
    2) A Mac that supports Bluetooth Low Energy

Knock is compatible with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite.

  • How can I tell which Mac I have?

The fastest way to tell if your Mac is compatible is to download Knock for Mac. It's free, and we'll let you know if your Mac works with Knock as soon as you open the app.

  • My Mac isn't compatible, now what?

Not to worry! You can use a low-cost Bluetooth 4.0 dongle on your older Mac to use Knock. We officially support the IOGear Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle. Many other Bluetooth 4.0 dongles will likely work, but we have not fully tested them. If you already have a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle and can't get Knock working, please email help@knocktounlock.com.

If you purchased the iPhone app, and can't get a dongle you can learn how to request a refund here

  • Do other Bluetooth devices interfere with Knock?

IF YOU HAVE OTHER BLUETOOTH APPS OR DEVICES
If Knock is not connecting or is very slow when you wake up your Mac, it may because your Mac is having trouble talking to other Bluetooth devices that are paired to your Mac. If you have a keyboard, mouse or other input device paired to your Mac, Knock must wait until these devices are connected before it has a chance to connect to your phone. In the worst case – for example, if your Mac is not near the keyboard or mouse – this can take up to 6 seconds per device, though it is usually much faster. To avoid this delay, unpair any paired Bluetooth input devices or make sure your Mac is within range of them before waking your Mac up from sleep. We know this isn’t a great solution, but unfortunately it is currently a limitation in Mac OS X.

If you have tried the above steps and are still experiencing slow connections please contact us so we can investigate further.
